About Us Print this page
The Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department has the strength of 49 volunteer firefighters and 2 junior firefighters, which serve a residential population of approximately 2,700 citizens, and a daytime population estimated to be in excess of 5,000 persons. Our fire station provides services to a geographical area of over fifteen square miles. That service area includes residential, commercial, and rural areas. In addition to our volunteer and junior firefighters our department has a public life educator, training and safety officer.
Our department provides the following services: Fire suppression, Vehicle rescue, Hazardous materials mitigation, Public education, and Pre-Fire plan services. A link can soon be found for information specific to each division on our home page.
Throughout the year the pay that a volunteer receives is the satisfaction of helping others and a “job well done” by the Chief. Please acknowledge and honor the dedicated men and women of the Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department. These people provide excellent service, support, and assistance at all hours of the day, every day of the year, for nothing more than the pride of doing their job. In addition, we wish to thank the neighboring departments, businesses, and communities that have provided valuable assistance throughout the year. By reading this letter it is our hope that you to will offer your “job well done” to our members and board of directors.
The operations of the fire department are funded in a variety of ways. Many people assume that we are fully funded by the taxes they pay on real estate, cars, and on other purchases they make. While it is true that part of our funding is derived from tax revenue, our operations would not be possible without the generous support of you, the residents of our community.
Through raffles, photo fundraisers and other activities, the fire department works very hard to ensure financial viability. Unfortunately, the equipment we use is very specialized and therefore, quite expensive. As a result, we are continually trying to increase our revenues so that we can utilize the most advanced equipment available when you call on us for assistance. We appreciate the support that you have shown us over the years and ask you to continue your generosity into the future so that we will always be ready to help.
The Red Oak Community Rural Fire Department is truly a community based, volunteer organization. The people who respond to your emergencies from our station are volunteers. They receive no direct compensation from a town, the county, or the fire department. These dedicated men and women save our community thousands of dollars each year in salary and benefit cost that would otherwise have to be funded by taxes.
